On June 29, 2009, The Loudoun Free Clinic recognized the many volunteers who gave generously of their time during the past year.  The Volunteer Recognition Reception/ Ice Cream Social honored the more than 160 active volunteers who serve the clinic in various capacities.  The Loudoun Free Clinic has seen a 72.3% increase in service hours this year; 5,800 hours in FY09 as compared with 3,300 hours in FY08.

One of the highlights of the evening was honoring Dr. Matthew Gavin of Leesburg Orthopedics for his ten years of service to the Board of Directors and to free clinic patients. As one of the founding board members of the clinic, Dr. Gavin generously sees our uninsured patients who need an orthopedic consult or surgery for free, along with his other partners.

 

The Peer Award recipients were nominated and voted on by the volunteers at the clinic. The following people received awards last night: Medical Provider: Dr. Jennifer Kugler; Nurse: Anne Gutierrez, RN; Interpreter: Beatriz Rodriguez; Administrative: Yasmina Lahlou; and Above and Beyond: Jeanie Testa.

 

Fourteen volunteers were given 5+ years of service awards and twenty volunteers received awards for providing more than 100+ hours of service this year. Barbara Thede served more than 200+ hours and Jeanie Testa served more than 1000+.

 

The final award which was new this year, The Jeanie Testa Unsung Hero Award, was given to Barbara Thede in honor of her service to the clinic. Mrs. Thede, a former Park View HS Spanish teacher, gives her time at the clinic each week to translate for patients, conduct eligibility appointments and to generally help as needed. She has given over 200+ hours of service just this year!
